Leto Copeley, candidate for judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 2010, will be the guest speaker at the September 24 general meeting of the Currituck County Democratic Party.
Copeley is a graduate of Harvard University Law School and is a partner in the Patterson-Harkavy Law Firm with offices in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, and Charlotte. Copeley is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the area of workers’ compensation, and since 2006 has been included in the list of North Carolina Super Lawyers published by Law and Politics Magazine. n listing her as one of the top 50 women lawyers in North Carolina. Before beginning her law practice, Copeley served as a law clerk to the Honorable James E. McMillan of the US District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. Her areas of practice include workers’ compensation, personal injury and wrongful death.
Copeley is a former treasurer of Legal Aid of North Carolina, an organization that delivers free legal services to low-income people statewide. She is actively involved in her church, St. Philips Episcopal Church of Durham, where she currently assists with the Hispanic Outreach Ministry and serves as an elected member of the vestry. She has been actively involved in the church’s youth ministry and led a Honduras Health Mission.
The September 24 general meeting of the Currituck County Democratic Party will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Courtroom A of the Currituck County Justice Center in Currituck.
